How does a biracial child of the 50's cope in the hostile black community in which she lives and the unaccepting white world she can't avoid? How does she survive the problematic adoption by a biracial, middle-aged couple whose marriage is crumbling? Integrated couples were not allowed to adopt in the 1950's and the unusual means by which this child was acquired will be sure to arrest your complete attention! Before the Civil Rights Era, the angst between the races was a solidly entrenched social evil much more volatile than this present day and the only thing that either race hated more than each other was the product of the occasional racial treason; a mixed child. When you are relegated to the outskirts of society and lack meaningful connections of family, friends, or community, how do you abolish bitterness and expand your solitude into dimensions of peace, beauty, and productivity? At age sixteen a marriage enforced by parents would involve a move to a strange, new city where frequent mental and physical violence would become daily realities at the hands of a deeply troubled man engulfed in the world of drugs. Widowed by tragedy at age twenty-one, the depths of solitude had been plumbed. How do you maintain warm, human hope in a cold world? Solitude...the inward frontier. Welcome to my world!

Fruits of My Solitude was therapeutic, and illuminating. It highlighted the importance of solitude and it the benefits it has to offer. Technology in today society has choked the life out of solitude and made it non-existent. As I read the book I paused during certain points to look at my life to see where was my solitude and how much I needed and longed for it. The writer offered fruitful remedies to a life full of work, children, phone calls, TV, errands, spiritual death, endless social engagements, chaos, abusive and broken relationships. Also, Stephenie Monear-Schlinder helps you to see how a small act of kindness can have a life changing impact on a person's life. As I read this book I wrote down things that were key for me to find and embrace my solitude that has been missing in my life for years. This book was great and put me on a new path.Product details

Fruits of My Solitude Ms Stephenie MonearSchindler 9781480286184 Books Reviews
I haven't bought the book, yet - as I have just read the sample (that has offered for viewers) this morning. However, from what little I read, it's got me hooked....it's definitely a "must buy" on my list. The imagery the author "paints" is unbelievable, as if you are the "fly-on-the-wall", witnessing her life, first-hand.
I strongly urge others to read the sample offered, here.
The first 2/3 of the book was very interesting. The last 1/3 of the book was "preachy" from a non professional person.
I found "Fruits of My Solitude" to be very interesting and well written. Back in the day, being bi-racial was not as accepted as it is today. This book is a story depicting one womans struggle and clearly her ability to rise above. I get it!
great
I know Stephenie and this shows her bravery to talk about her life as a bi-racial child.
This Book was a real gift to read! It is an insightful, poetic, sensitive reflection on the challenges of a biracial child growing up in very difficult circumstances. The triumph of grace and determination over violence and obstacles will inspire you! Thank you for publishing this testimony of faith in God and in the human spirit!
A deft literary memoir of how Stephenie Monear Schindler navigated 'Solitude' and reaped 'Fruits'. Along the way, Stephenie bravely shares a broad spectrum of emotions. Those emotions evoke from the profoundly sad to the laugh out loud funny. Ultimately leading to a joyful conclusion. Thank you for writing such a wonderful book Stephenie.
